Ms. Trish Murph - MMO
Ms. Donna came to HMC as a parent many years ago and enjoyed being here so much that she has been a substitute since her sons finished attended the preschool over 6 years ago. She joined the staff in 2016 as a MMO teacher and is a MSDE Qualified Lead Teacher. Her favorite age group is the 2 year olds, but she has experience in all of our classrooms. She has been a CCD teacher for the past 7 years and has volunteered at The Chesapeake Public Charter School since 2008. Donna loves spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband have two teenage boys that keep them very busy.
Ms. Trish joined the HMC staff as a MMO teacher in 2017 after substituting at the preschool. She loves teaching our littlest friends. She graduated from Frostburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Middle Education and taught middle school before becoming a Navy wife and stay at home mom. Over the years she has enjoyed working as a substitute preschool teacher and volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, in children’s ministry, and at her children’s schools. She and her husband have two teenagers and their family attends First Saints Community Church in Leonardtown.
Ms. Smith is a highly experienced preschool teacher who joined our staff for the 2016-17 school year. She has extensive experience teaching both 3 and 4 year olds. Courtney is a Maryland State Department of Education Qualified Lead Preschool Teacher and holds a Level 6 Maryland Teaching Credential for Early Childhood. She is excited to join HMC and put her creative talents to use with her new students. She is an active member of First Saints Community Church where she volunteers with the children's ministry. She and her husband have two boys and enjoy hiking, boating, and paddle boarding.
In 2005, Ms. Wolfe left her 12 year Navy career as an Aircraft Mechanic to be a stay at home mother. While serving in the Navy, she also earned a BS in Human Resource Management. At HMC, she started as a substitute in the MMO program in 2011 and realized this was where God meant for her to be. She feels blessed to have been hired to teach in 2012. She loves to see the growth of each child in her class and the kids throughout all of HMC and considers everyone on the staff as one big family. She believes that together, they work hard to ensure every child that comes to HMC is comfortable, loved and excited to come to school.

Ms. Bean has worked at HMC in the 3’s preschool classroom since 2011. Before joining HMC’s teaching staff, she substituted in each HMC classroom. She graduated from Virginia Tech and is an Maryland State Department of Education Qualified Lead Preschool Teacher. Both of her children attended HMC and she truly enjoys working with children. She looks forward to each school year and feels blessed to be able to teach. She believes the children teach her too and remind her how innocent and exciting life really is. She loves spending time with her husband and children and traveling. In her free time, she volunteers at her children’s school.
Originally from Georgia, Ms. Byers earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1992 at the University of Georgia and then a Master of Early Childhood Education from the University of North Georgia in 1995. She taught many levels, including Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 4th and 5th grades in both public and private schools. She was a stay at home mom to her two sons for a number of years before returning to work as Director at HMC. She’s been an active volunteer at Patuxent Presbyterian Church, Leonardtown Elementary and in her children’s activities. She is pleased to have joined HMC as the Director in 2013 after having been a long time member of Patuxent Presbyterian and an HMC mom. She enjoys meeting each family and watching their children grow and learn about God’s love for them.
Ms. Sowa came to HMC because her children attended and she subbed in many different classes before being hired as a classroom teacher in 2008. Ms. Sowa is a Maryland State Department of Education Qualified Lead Preschool Teacher. At HMC, she has been blessed with the opportunity to work with kids in a Christian environment helping them to prepare for school and learn about God. She grew up in Baltimore and moved to St Mary's County for her husband’s job as an aerospace engineer. She earned a BS in Finance at the University of Maryland and also earned her MBA. After working as a financial analyst, she “retired" to raise her kids. As a family, they attend Our Lady Star of the Sea church in Solomons and enjoy activities such as sailing, traveling, gardening, and cooking/eating.
Ms. Piland has been a teacher at Honey MacCallum since 1991. After studying Elementary Education and Business at Virginia Tech, she and her husband settled in St. Mary’s County where he works at the base. Her two children attended HMC over 20 years ago and she felt this was where she should be. Ms. Piland is a Maryland State Department of Education Qualified Lead Preschool Teacher. She finds the excitement of the children contagious and teaching them never gets old. She feels blessed to share her faith and plant seeds for Christ with these young children’s families. She is a member of Patuxent Presbyterian Church where she has served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School teacher. In her spare time, she operates a craft business, Picket Fence Primitives, where she designs and creates one of a kind folk art characters. She enjoys long walks with her husband and dog, family vacations at the beach, and spending time with her grandson.
Ms. Cherie has been a member of Patuxent Presbyterian Church since 1992, during which time she has been active as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and was a member of the HMC School Board. Her son attended HMC and she has been a part of the HMC team working in the Mother's Morning Out program since 2005. She believes her greatest job has been being a mom. Her hobbies are cooking, reading and scrapbooking. She has spent her career working with children in daycare and preschool settings. Ms. Cherie is a Maryland State Department of Education Qualified Lead Preschool Teacher.
